Penquis Beekeepers

Penquis Beekeepers is a diversified group of primarily back-yard beekeepers located in central Maine. Our group was established in 2005 with only a handful of members and has steadily grown to 65 + members today. Our ever-continuing goal is to foster and promote successful beekeeping as well as any matters pertaining to the honeybee in the state of Maine with emphasis on our local counties. Membership varies from lifetime beekeepers to individuals just getting started with honeybees.

Monthly meetings are typically held the second Tuesday of every month at the VFW on 20 Cedar Street in Dexter from 7:00 p.m. to 9 p.m. Any variation to regular meetings is noted in each month’s meeting’s minutes of which all members receive by e-mail.

During June and July we hold our monthly meetings at a local apiary for open hive demonstrations. Members are encouraged to bring their bee suits, veils and gloves to these demonstrations. September through April meetings we typically have guest speakers covering various topics on beekeeping along with our regular business agenda. Our Annual Meeting is held in December at which time new officers are elected, a pot-luck supper is enjoyed along with our sometime- rowdy Yankee Swap.

Members are eligible for borrowing books from our “Penquis Beekeepers Clayton Carr Memorial Library”. Many books, and DVD’s are available to borrow. Please see “Our Library List” for a complete listing. Also, as Penquis Beekeepers is a chapter member of Maine State Beekeepers Association, our members are also eligible to borrow books and DVD’s from the MSBA Library.
